Kenneth Branagh to play Boris Johnson in new miniseries After his resignation, however, there will apparently not be any re-shooting.

Boris Johnson (58) has said he is stepping down as Tory leader but wants to remain in office until a successor is found. After new scandals surrounding Johnson, more than 50 government employees have resigned in protest in recent days. None of this will be seen in the upcoming miniseries “This England”.

Kenneth Branagh (61), who embodies Johnson in it, will not return to film new scenes, reports the US industry magazine “Variety”. Sources familiar with the project are said to have stated that despite all the incidents, there are generally no plans to incorporate new material. The drama is currently in post-production.

Johnson and the first corona wave

The story of “This England”, once known as “This Sceptred Isle”, is said to focus on the first wave of the corona pandemic in 2020, when Johnson was only a few months in office as prime minister and himself ill with Covid-19 . Johnson’s corona policy has been repeatedly criticized in recent years. The so-called “Partygate” affair about illegal celebrations during the lockdown has also been causing a stir for a long time.

According to the report, there is currently no exact release date for the drama by Michael Winterbottom (61). A release in autumn is planned. It was first announced in early 2021 that Branagh would play Johnson in the Sky miniseries.
