A user tried to raise $1 million for Amber Heard on GoFundMe. But the platform put a stop to the whole thing.

Amber Heard (36) is said to have paid more than ten million US dollars to her ex-husband after the verdict in the defamation trial against Johnny Depp (58) – but she is said not to be able to. A donation campaign for the actress launched on the GoFundMe platform has now been deleted. There were apparently indications that a third party might want to enrich themselves.

A user had started the campaign under the title “Justice for Amber Heard”, as reported by the US celebrity portal “TMZ”. The fundraising goal was one million US dollars. A GoFundMe spokesperson confirmed the call was spotted before any large sums were received. Suspicious: The platform determined that the campaign was not created by Heard or anyone on her team. We will continue to be vigilant in the future when it comes to possible attempts at fraud.

Amber Heard “definitely can’t” pay the fine

According to the verdict, Depp should pay a fine of two million US dollars in the process, but his ex-wife was hit much harder. She should transfer him $ 15 million, the jury said. Because of the laws in force in Virginia, where the trial took place, she only has to raise $10.35 million. This will not be possible for Heard either, her lawyer had explained on television. When asked if the 36-year-old was able to pay the amount, Elaine Bredehoft replied on the show “Today”: “Oh no, definitely not.” But it shouldn’t come to that, because Heard plans to appeal.

Depp sued Heard for $50 million for a post she published in the Washington Post in 2018. In it, she claimed to be a victim of domestic violence. However, she did not mention her ex-husband by name. After a trial that lasted around six weeks and during which the two sides fought bitterly, the jury had nevertheless ruled that she was guilty of defamation.

Heard had filed a $100 million counterclaim. The jury found that a former lawyer for Depp slandered the actress, which is why the Hollywood star was fined two million.

Johnny Depp and Amber Heard originally married in 2015. However, the couple separated again in 2016 and the divorce followed in 2017. Over the past few years, both parties – as well as in the process – have repeatedly accused each other of domestic violence.
