Andy Fletcher has died aged just 60. The musician was a founding member and keyboardist of the band Depeche Mode.

Andy Fletcher (1961-2022) is dead. The British musician and keyboardist for the synth-pop band Depeche Mode died at the age of 60. The band announced this on Twitter. “We are shocked and filled with overwhelming sadness at the untimely death of our dear friend, family member and bandmate Andy ‘Fletch’ Fletcher,” the statement read Thursday (May 26).

Musicians with a “true heart of gold”

“Fletch had a true heart of gold and was always there when you needed support, a lively conversation, a laugh or a cold beer. Our thoughts are with his family,” wrote the band around Martin Gore (60) and Dave Gahan ( 60) further.

Fletcher co-founded the band, whose name is based on the French fashion magazine “Dépêche Mode” and which is one of the most successful bands in the world, in his home town of Basildon at the end of the 70s. The first single “Dreaming of Me” was released in 1981. Later they landed hits like “Enjoy The Silence”, “Personal Jesus”, “New Life”, “Just Can’t Get Enough” or “Wrong”. They have sold over 100 million records worldwide.
