It is a spectacular leak: WDR and NDR were leaked 40,000 internal chat messages from the AfD parliamentary group. Carolin Kebekus made a soap out of it.

Carolin Kebekus could hardly believe her luck: “Pure Gold” she calls out to the audience on Thursday evening in her show. You should not exaggerate: Investigative teams from WDR and NDR have received more than 40,000 internal chat messages from the AfD parliamentary group from the years 2017 to 2021.

Any political journalist would lick their fingers afterwards, but in the hands of a comedienne, right-wing conversations only unfold their full potential. Because Kebekus immediately recognized the absurdity of the present messages. “It reads like the script of a soap victim,” she says – and takes the next logical step: she builds a soap out of the chat messages. Major interventions were not necessary: ”We cut a bit here and there, but we didn’t change the meaning.”

“Good times, right times,” she calls the series, from which she shows several episodes. In support, real soap actors have agreed to play the members of the AfD faction.

Carolin Kebekus makes fun of the AfD

In the first episode, the AfD found no place in Germany to hold its parliamentary group retreat. So there is the suggestion to switch to the Polish Stettin. In the chat – i.e. in the soap – there are heated debates, because as an alternative for Germany you don’t want to be driven out of your homeland. “It can’t be that difficult to have a parliamentary group retreat on German soil at the second attempt,” enthused one member of parliament.

Others, on the other hand, see the advantage of a trip to Poland: “I’d like to bring a couple of packs of cigarettes with me. My village is happy and we’re campaigning.” Kebekus wasn’t exaggerating – such dialogues really are pure gold, no screenwriter could think of something like that.

Incidentally, the planned exam in Szczecin failed in 2019 – the hotel canceled the event at short notice, citing a “power failure” as the reason.

Reference to the ARD documentary

There are three more episodes that are less appetizing. It is rushed, mobbed and argued at the lowest level. Carolin Kebekus serves the viewers a lot of laughs at the expense of the AfD.

At the same time, she’s smart enough to know that just joking isn’t enough. That’s why she refers to the documentary “AfD-Leaks: The secret chats of the Bundestag faction”, which will be broadcast on Monday evening at 10:50 p.m. on the first.

Because, the comedy woman has to admit: “There’s nothing like good journalism.”
