The biopic “Elvis” celebrates its world premiere in Cannes. After filming the film, lead actor Austin Butler ended up in the hospital.

Today, May 25th, “Elvis” celebrates its world premiere in Cannes. The shooting of the biopic by Baz Luhrmann (59) apparently hit the actor Austin Butler (30) hard. In an interview with the men’s magazine “GQ”, the actor of Elvis Presley (1935-1977) says that he had to be hospitalized just a few hours after the end of shooting.

Butler was so devoted to the role that his body no longer played along. Work on the film was completed in March 2021. “The next day I woke up at 4am in excruciating pain and was rushed to the hospital,” said the 30-year-old. Accordingly, he caught a virus whose symptoms are similar to appendicitis. He was bedridden for a week. His body was simply “shut down”.

Numerous stars celebrate the world premiere

In addition to the director, butler and “Elvis” colleagues such as Tom Hanks (65) and Olivia DeJonge (24), Elvis’ ex-wife Priscilla Presley (77) was also present on the red carpet. Stars like Sharon Stone (64), Kylie Minogue (53), Shakira (45), the band Maneskin and the model Kaia Gerber (20), the daughter of Cindy Crawford (56), were also seen.

Presley had already seen the film in advance and raved about leading actor Butler, among other things. She praised him on Facebook at the end of April and explained that the 30-year-old had played Elvis “excellently”.
