Longtime Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone was briefly arrested in Brazil. Police found a gun in his luggage.

Bernie Ecclestone (91) was arrested at Viracopos Airport in Campinas, in the Brazilian state of São Paulo. This is reported, among other things, by the BBC, citing a statement from the local police on Thursday (May 26).

He could start his journey

Accordingly, a pistol was discovered during a check in the luggage of the ex-Formula 1 boss. The 91-year-old was temporarily arrested and released after posting bail. He was then able to begin his planned journey to Switzerland on a private plane. According to the BBC, Ecclestone claimed to have the gun when arrested, but said he did not know it was in his luggage at the time.

Ecclestone has been married to Brazilian Fabiana Ecclestone since 2012. In 2020 their son Ace was born – Ecclestone’s fourth child. The 91-year-old was the managing director of Formula 1 until 2017.
