BVB draws consequences from an “unsatisfactory season” and separates from head coach Marco Rose.
Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund and coach Marco Rose (45) ended their collaboration after just one year. BVB announced this after an intensive season analysis with managing director Hans-Joachim Watzke, sports director Michael Zorc, licensed player boss Sebastian Kehl, consultant Matthias Sammer and Rose.
“This day is not easy for any of us, because mutual respect was, is and will be great. After a season that was unsatisfactory for various reasons, we had to realize that we didn’t get the most out of our opportunities in many areas “Watzke said.
BVB: Marco Rose came from Gladbach in 2021
Rose only switched from Borussia Mönchengladbach to BVB last year for a fee of five million euros. His contract ran until June 2024. “Despite a difficult season with many imponderables, I was convinced of our path. During our conversation, I got the impression that everyone responsible was no longer 100 percent convinced. That’s why we ultimately decided together to end the collaboration,” Rose said.
BVB failed embarrassingly in the Champions League, Europa League and in the cup last season. In the Bundesliga, the runners-up were eight points behind Bayern Munich at the end of the season. Dortmund is already the fifth Bundesliga team to part with their coach after the end of the season.
