Eva Fricke has achieved what no one has done before: the winemaker brought international glamor and top marks to the tranquil Rheingau. Three of their wines were awarded 100 points by two of the most important wine critics in the world in 2020. In the stern podcast “Die Boss” she talks to hostess Simone Menne about this success and reveals how her wines then made it to the Sotheby’s auction.

A bottle of their dessert wine “Lorcher Krone Trockenbeerenauslese 2019” fetched more than 4000 euros. “This is of course something for wine lovers who are building up a collection,” explains Fricke. She herself would also buy wine in the supermarket. “All supermarkets in Germany have very strict incoming goods controls in terms of quality and have excellent products in their price category. (…) I personally would first look: What are the organic products? You can really say: Even if this producer If he were to cheat, he’s subject to stricter controls than the other guy. That’s an easy limitation. But there are also fantastic wine apps with label finders that you can use if you’re not sure.”

Self-made winemaker Eva Fricke is also familiar with crises as an entrepreneur

The winemaker also reports on the hard sides of her job, because shortly before her great success, the Corona crisis almost brought her into bankruptcy. “I would always advise everyone to start a business and be self-employed. But the way I write my business plan, I should also have a very clearly defined exit plan at this moment,” said the entrepreneur at “Die Boss”. Fricke also tells in the podcast how she came to grow wine in the Rheingau as a Bremen native and how much she thinks a good wine can – and must – cost.

In “The Boss – Power is Female” top women speak among themselves: hostess and multi-supervisory board member Simone Menne (including BMW, Deutsche Post DHL, Henkel) meets female bosses from all areas of society to talk to them about their lives and careers. “Die Boss” appears fortnightly on Wednesdays on stern.de and the stern YouTube channel as well as on Audio Now and all common podcast platforms.
