There was a fight between several hundred people in Essen on Saturday evening. A man was stabbed. Now the police are looking for eyewitnesses and video recordings.

It was around 7.30 p.m. when the police and fire department in Essen received several emergency calls. The reason: a mass brawl in the Altendorf district. According to the police, several hundred people attacked each other in the area between Helenenstraße and Siemensstraße – some with chairs and tables. Cups, plates, sticks and knives are also said to have been used.

A 30-year-old man was found seriously injured by officers. He was probably stabbed with a knife. Paramedics took him to a nearby hospital. At least two others were also injured in the brawl. One of them has been wanted as a suspect since midday for a robbery that happened at noon today.

Man arrested in Essen after mass brawl

After receiving outpatient medical treatment, he was arrested on the basis of a pre-existing arrest warrant. According to initial findings, the groups of people are said to be two large families, among which a dispute apparently escalated beforehand. Police are now appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Exactly one week ago, the police in Berlin had to move out to a mass brawl in an outdoor pool. There, young men had sprayed each other with water guns. This led to a heated argument and eventually to a mass brawl involving around a hundred people.

The police moved in with 13 patrol cars and parts of a hundred units to calm the situation. Police identified four suspects between the ages of 15 and 23. There is now a case against them for particularly serious breaches of the peace. One of them is also said to have hit a security guard
