Ed Sheeran also stops in Germany on his tour. He has the singer Cat Burns with him as support. Who is the newcomer?

Ed Sheeran (31) is finally back on tour and also stops in Germany several times. The British singer-songwriter will be appearing in the Veltins Arena in Gelsenkirchen on Saturday (July 9th) for the third day in a row. In September he will return again for shows of his “The Mathematics Tour” in Munich and Frankfurt. Before the 31-year-old gives his celebrated concerts, two young singers appear to support his tour: Maisie Peters (22) and Cat Burns (22).

Peters broke through in her native UK last year – her debut album You Signed Up for This reached number two in the UK charts. She has also been active on YouTube for several years and has released several singles.

Cat Burns, on the other hand, whose real name is Catrina Keri Oluwaseun Burns-Temison, has only really taken off since this year. With her single “go” she celebrated chart success in Great Britain, Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Superstars like Sam Smith (30) are already fans of the singer. The two recently released their version of “go”.

Sam Smith raves about Cat Burns

“Cat is a gift to all of us,” Smith said of the 22-year-old. “The statement means a lot to me,” reveals Cat Burns in an interview with spot on news. She “loves” Sam Smith and the 30-year-old star’s music. For the singer it was “very nice to hear such nice words about me so early in my career”. The single “go” will “always be the song that changed my life” and accordingly “always mean a lot to her,” she continues.

The 22-year-old started out as a street musician, which was both a “funny” and a “difficult time” for her. “It was my only source of income!” Cat Burns recalls. “But it taught me so much about myself and performing and that I just have to keep going!”

Her songs are about things “that everyone goes through every day”: The themes of friendships, relationships and mental health play a large role in the lyrics of the south London musician. “I want people to feel like I’m listening to them and that they can relate to what I’m singing about,” explains Cat Burns.

How did Cat Burns join Ed Sheeran’s tour?

Apparently, the 22-year-old herself can hardly believe that she is now appearing in huge stadiums on Ed Sheeran’s tour. “I just performed in front of 25,000 people. What?” She wrote in her Instagram story after her first appearance in the Veltins Arena in Gelsenkirchen for a selfie in which she made an astonished face. She herself “doesn’t know exactly” how she got the engagement. “I got a call from my manager while I was in the car. He told me I was offered the tour and I took the opportunity!” she tells spot on news.

Cat Burns has “no particular ritual” before going on stage. “I just need time to myself to breathe and center myself,” she explains.

Before her concerts with Ed Sheeran, the singer had already been to Germany “once”. “I was still very young, so I can’t remember where,” says the Briton. Which city are you particularly looking forward to? “I’m excited to go to Munich,” reveals the 22-year-old.

Collaboration with Ed Sheeran?

After working with Sam Smith, is a collaboration with Ed Sheeran also an option? “No, I’m still a new artist just finding my feet,” replies Cat Burns modestly. “I want to focus on releasing more music and getting a foothold in the industry before I ask him!”

After his concerts in Gelsenkirchen, Ed Sheeran will appear three times in Munich’s Olympic Stadium (September 10, 11 and 12) and in the Deutsche Bank Park in Frankfurt (September 23, 24 and 25). With one exception (September 24th) Cat Burns is part of the party.
