Texas has long had some of the most lenient gun laws in the United States. Only last year did the US state (repeatedly) relax the conditions that were already negotiable.

It is one of the deadliest school massacres in US history: An 18-year-old stormed into an elementary school in the state of Texas and shot at least 19 children (read more about the background here). And again the lax US gun laws are being argued about.

“As a nation, we have to ask ourselves when in God’s name are we going to stand up to the gun lobby,” US President Joe Biden said in the White House. “The idea that an 18-year-old boy can walk into a gun store and buy two assault weapons is just wrong.” And yet, in Texas, it really is that simple.
