Around a year after the death of her son Emilio, Simone Ballack spoke for the first time about the tragic event in front of TV cameras. The 18-year-old died in an accident in early August 2021. Together with his two brothers, Emilio had spent his holidays with his father, ex-soccer player Michael Ballack, in Portugal. There, the high school graduate had an accident on the family property with a quad.
To this day, she thinks about the moment when the accident happened, said Simone Ballack in an interview with “RTL Exklusiv”. The 46-year-old was at home in Germany at the time when the family called her and informed her of what had happened. “You work like a machine. You fly there now and look at it again. That’s the basic idea. You would probably swim over there if you had to,” said Ballack, who fought back tears several times during the interview.
She doesn’t ask herself why fate hit her so hard, but why did this happen to her son. A young person who had just graduated from high school and had his whole life ahead of him. She herself is grateful for 18 years together. “Other people lose their children very early, as babies or as toddlers. Some can’t have children at all,” she said. Her son will always live on in her memory and she hasn’t changed his room yet.
Simone Ballack wants to be strong for her other two sons
Ballack tries to stay strong and distract himself with work in everyday life. “Of course there are days when I don’t want to get up and lie in bed and cry, but I won’t let it.” She also feels an obligation to her other two sons to keep going. “They also want to lead a reasonably happy life. And as a mother, it’s your responsibility.”
Simone and Michael Ballack were in a relationship for 14 years, four of them married. They have two sons together, 20-year-old Louis and 17-year-old Jordi. In her second marriage, Simone Ballack has been married to her childhood friend Andreas Mecky since 2019.
