More than 1000 Orsay employees in Germany will soon have to look for a new job. The fashion chain cannot continue its insolvency proceedings under self-administration.

According to a company spokesman, the Orsay fashion chain is closing all branches in Germany and has laid off around 1,200 employees.

As the spokesman announced on Tuesday, the company, based in Willstätt (Ortenaukreis), decided at the end of March to shut down business operations, which will now be completed at the end of June. At the beginning of the year, Orsay still employed around 1,200 people in Germany. According to the spokesman, the approximately 130 branches will be closed. The “Textile Industry” had previously reported on it.

The Orsay spokesman told the “Rheinische Post” (Tuesday) that the war against Ukraine had further depressed German consumers’ propensity to consume, and that the pandemic had already had a severe impact on business. “Therefore, the self-administered insolvency proceedings, on which we had placed great hopes, cannot be continued.” The shops would also be closed in other countries.
