In the morning, a driver in Berlin hit several people. One person was killed. This is what is known about the background so far:

After the fatal incident in Berlin with a driver, in addition to documents, posters with inscriptions were found in the car.

“There is no real letter of confession,” said Berlin’s Senator for the Interior, Iris Spranger (SPD). Police circles had previously said that a letter of confession had been found in the car.

Statements on Turkey

Spranger spoke of “posters” that would contain statements about Turkey. The exact motivation of the driver must be examined. A police spokeswoman said: “We are still checking the nature of the statements on documents and posters that were found in the car.”

Police President Barbara Slowik speaks of a “suspect” who is now in the hospital. At the moment there is no relevant knowledge of a political motivation. There was no mention of a random accident in the statements.

That happened:

The perpetrator had driven into a group of people on the sidewalk at around 10.30 a.m. at the Berlin Memorial Church on Ku’damm and then crashed into a shop window 200 meters further on Tauentzienstrasse. Among the injured were numerous 10th graders from Bad Arolsen in northern Hesse. A teacher was killed and a teacher seriously injured. This was announced by the Hessian state government. According to the Berlin fire brigade, six people were life-threatening and three people were seriously injured.
