Robert Lewandowski speaks again about his departure from FC Bayern. “It was the most difficult decision of my life,” says the new FC Barcelona striker of “Bild”. Even 2026 does not have to be the end for Lewandowski.

Robert Lewandowski has defended the many noises surrounding his move from FC Bayern Munich to FC Barcelona. “It was eight wonderful years here, so I hope that we can forget what happened in the past few weeks with some distance. There were unnecessary things, from both sides,” said Lewandowski of “Bild” in an interview. “I know the business, I know what was said and written. A lot was unnecessary, a lot of false rumours.”

Robert Lewandowski: “Maybe certain things had to happen”

Despite the contract until the end of June 2023 in Munich, Lewandowski had pushed for a move to Barcelona this summer. “My story at Bayern is over. It’s clear to me that the transfer is the best solution for both sides,” the world footballer announced at the end of May. FC Bayern has now sold the 33-year-old to the Spaniards for up to 50 million euros.

“I said that both sides did things that were unnecessary. But maybe certain things had to happen so that the change was possible in the end. I think both sides are satisfied now. Bayern get a lot of money, I can go Barcelona,” explained Lewandowski.

Saying goodbye is not easy for the Pole. “It was the most difficult decision of my life. I wanted to live somewhere else, discover something new with my family,” explained Lewandowski. “It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”

Lewandowski is said to have signed a contract for up to four years in Barcelona. “I know I’ll be 34 soon, but I feel very strong physically and mentally. Barcelona felt the same way,” said the forward. “I don’t know how things will continue after that, but even 2026 doesn’t have to be the end. I want to play at the top level for many years to come.”
