Ecuador has secured the ticket for the World Cup – and is also allowed to fly to the tournament in Qatar. FIFA decided that on Friday.

The world football association FIFA has announced that Ecuador will be allowed to take part in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Chile had protested against the qualification of ‘El Tri’ at the beginning of May, whereupon an official investigation was launched by the federation.

It was essentially about Ecuador’s player Byron David Castillo Segura, who had been used during the World Cup qualifiers. Chile believed he was a Colombian and not an Ecuadorian and accused Ecuador’s FEF of forging Castillo’s birth certificate.

Italy’s World Cup hopes burst again

“After analyzing all the documents submitted by the parties involved, the FIFA Disciplinary Committee has decided to drop the case against the FEF,” FIFA said in a statement. However, Chile can appeal against this decision.

Recently, Italy had also had slight hopes of being able to move up in the event of Ecuador being excluded from the World Cup. The Azzurri would have been the highest-ranked team in the FIFA World Ranking had that been used to reallocate the vacated ticket.
