Actress Laverne Cox is honored with a Barbie doll and is thrilled. She had her breakthrough in the series “Orange Is the New Black”.

Actress and LGBTQIA activist Laverne Cox (49) receives her own Barbie. According to US media reports, Mattel has announced that it is launching a doll modeled on Cox. It is therefore the first time that a Barbie has been created in the image of a transgender woman.

The toy company apparently worked directly with Cox to create a Barbie that fits her style exactly. The doll is reportedly wearing a red dress consisting of a fitted bodice and a full tulle skirt. The actress herself is excited about the honor: “It has been a dream for years to work with Barbie to create my own doll,” Cox said in a statement. “I can’t wait for fans to find my doll on store shelves and have the opportunity to add a transgender inspired Barbie doll to their collection.”

“We’re proud to highlight the importance of inclusion and acceptance at any age, and to celebrate Laverne’s significant impact on culture with a Tribute Collection Barbie,” Mattel’s Lisa McKnight said in a statement. The doll is expected to go on sale in the coming week and will cost the equivalent of around 37 euros.

The Queen also has her own Barbie

The Laverne-Cox Barbie was made before her 50th birthday. The actress, who became known through the series “Orange Is the New Black”, celebrates her special day on May 29th. Most recently she was seen in the mini-series “Inventing Anna”.

Mattel also recently created Barbie dolls for actress Lucille Ball and Queen Elizabeth II. The latter is said to have been sold out in Britain within seconds, as reported by the Guardian.
