During the first practice session before the British Grand Prix on Friday, however, the drivers were hardly able to gain any experience because the teams mostly left their cars in the garages due to the long wet track. As the tarmac dried just before the end, Lance Stroll smashed into the gravel in the Aston Martin. The training was then stopped.
Only ten of the 20 pilots recorded at least one complete timed lap. Lewis Hamilton in the Mercedes took second place behind the Finn Bottas. They were followed by the Ferrari duo Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc as well as Mick Schumacher im Haas. Sebastian Vettel finished tenth in the Aston Martin. However, the first training session gave little information for the tenth race of the season on Sunday (4 p.m. / RTL and Sky).
Before the Grand Prix, world champion Max Verstappen is at the top of the overall standings with a clear lead. The Dutchman has won six of the nine races of the season so far. Second in the World Cup is his Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez ahead of Leclerc.
