In Germany there are more and more millionaires. In 2018, almost 26,300 Germans had at least one million euros. Hamburg once again had the highest density of millionaires among the 16 federal states.

The number of income millionaires has recently increased. As the Federal Statistical Office in Wiesbaden announced on Tuesday, in 2018, for which the most recent data are available, almost 26,300 of all taxpayers in Germany had at least one million euros. That was a good 1,500 more than in 2017.

Density of millionaires highest in Hamburg

The annual income achieved in this group averaged 2.6 million euros. The main source of income was 59 percent from a commercial enterprise, 20 percent derived their income primarily from dependent work, and 15 percent from self-employed work.

As in previous years, the density of millionaires was highest in Hamburg in 2018, followed by Bavaria. Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia brought up the rear, as the statisticians further announced. In total, the 42.4 million taxpayers generated income of 1.8 trillion euros in 2018, which was 84 billion euros more than in the previous year.
