A fashionable trip to the Italian island of Capri is calling: with these outfit inspirations, you can also get that holiday feeling at home.

The blue grotto, dreamy sunsets, glamorous flair: Holiday dreams come true on the Italian island of Capri. In a survey from 1956, the citizens of the still young Federal Republic of Germany named the island of Capri as their dream travel destination.

Shortly before, the German fashion designer Sonja de Lennart had designed her Capri Collection and thus immortalized her longing for the holiday island in an entire fashion collection. Even today, the glamorous vintage style à la Audrey Hepburn and Jackie Kennedy inspires the hearts of fashion lovers. With these tips you can achieve the perfect Capri holiday look.

The classics: Capri trousers and Capri sandals

To evoke a real Capri feeling, you should invest in classic Capri pants. Best in combination with elegant and filigree Capri sandals. Jackie Kennedy made the Capri sandals an integral part of her holiday outfits and thus a classic in the fashion world. The flat thong sandals not only go perfectly with Capri pants, but also with airy summer dresses, short pants, wide skirts and mini dresses with flounces. Celebrities like Sienna Miller (40) and Alessandra Ambrosio (41) swear by flat sandals for their summer looks.

Capri pants, on the other hand, are three-quarter-length, tight-fitting women’s pants that have a slit hem. The length of the pants is characteristic, it always covers the knee and usually reaches the middle of the calf. The classic Capri pants (also called fisherman pants) are high-waisted pants and have no trouser pockets. It is usually made of cotton or linen – materials that are very comfortable to wear, especially in summer temperatures.

The inventor of the pants is the German fashion designer Sonja de Lennart. Her favorite travel destination in the 1950s was the Italian island of Capri. She therefore created her Capri Collection with a Capri skirt, Capri blouse, Capri belt, Capri hat and Capri trousers. The latter came about when, on a walk on the beach in Italy, she cut her trouser legs three-quarters length so that the trouser legs would not get wet.

The Capri look of the Hollywood divas

Capri pants evoke the glamor of bygone times and the lifestyle of famous Hollywood divas: Marilyn Monroe, Sophia Loren, Katharine Hepburn, Doris Day, Brigitte Bardot, Grace Kelly, Elizabeth Taylor.

Audrey Hepburn also loved Capri pants: the actress had Hubert de Givenchy design several models that can be seen in the film “Sabrina”, among others. Previously, Hepburn wore garments from de Lennart’s Capri Collection in the film A Heart and a Crown.

This completes the Capri look

A few accessories are needed to round off the Capri holiday look. A simple, single-colored T-shirt goes best with three-quarter-length capri pants. The outfit looks more sophisticated when the pants are combined with a red and white or blue and white striped blouse.

Based on the style of Jackie Kennedy, it is best to combine elegant sunglasses and a headscarf made of silk or a similarly fine material in the same color as the outfit. The hair is tied back in a simple bun or braid.
