Before the corona pandemic, many vaccination cards eked out their existence in dusty drawers. In the meantime, however, the ID document is one of the most important documents that you should always have with you. To protect it, it makes sense to buy a case – but not everyone is equally suitable.

Although a digital vaccination certificate is sufficient to prove your corona vaccination(s), many people prefer to have the original to hand – just in case the battery suddenly runs out or the smartphone is forgotten at home. In order to protect the sensitive paper from external influences such as dirt and moisture, the transparent cover is currently experiencing real sales hype. What many don’t know: The vaccination card is not a standardized ID document. For this reason, you should note the following points.

Important criterion: the date of issue

Did you know that the size of the vaccination card has changed over the years – since 2015 to be precise? To find out how old your identity document is, you should check the place of issue and the date of the first vaccination on it. The following differences can be derived from this:

Conclusion: If your vaccination card was only issued in 2021 or 2022 as a result of the corona pandemic, it will most likely have the following dimensions: 130 x 93 millimeters (H x W). To be absolutely sure, you can simply measure the document with a ruler or tape before you buy a sleeve.

The cover for the vaccination card: models in comparison

Since vaccination cards are still not standardized to this day, the sizes can continue to vary, depending on where they are issued. DIY: How to make your own vaccination card cover

If none of the standard vaccination card covers appeal to you, but you still don’t want to do without them, you can make your own model. All you need is an ordinary transparent cover, scissors and some adhesive tape: Place your document in the envelope and then fold it over at the edges of the vaccination card. Now cut off the excess film along the edges and tape the open side shut with some adhesive tape. Logically, leave the top edge open so that you can remove the document at any time. Alternatively, you can also sew a cover. You can find suitable instructions in this video.
