Former tennis player Maria Sharapova gave birth to a boy. She has also revealed the baby’s name.

In tennis she has achieved pretty much everything. Maria Sharapova (35) was world number one and was one of only a few people to win all four Grand Slam tournaments. Now she is also celebrating a very special success in her private life: the former tennis player has become a mother for the first time. Sharapova confirmed this on Instagram on July 15.

She published a picture showing her with her fiancé, Alexander Gilkes (42). Both proudly look at their baby together. Sharapova reveals that the little one was born on July 1st and is named Theodore. “The most beautiful, challenging and rewarding gift our little family could ask for,” comments the 35-year-old. And her profile now says “Mama”.

She also happily announced on Instagram in April that she was pregnant. The Russian-born shared a picture of herself on the beach showing her baby bump. “Precious beginnings,” she wrote. And she joked, “Eating birthday cake for two has always been my specialty.”

Sharapova and Gilkes have been engaged since December 2020. At the time, she wrote: “I said ‘yes’ from the first day we saw each other. That was our little secret, wasn’t it?” She added a heart and a ring emoji. He also reported to Instagram and thanked her for making him very happy with her “yes”. He looks forward to loving her for a lifetime and learning from her.
