Bradley Cooper will play Leonard Bernstein in Maestro. The actor is hardly recognizable in photos.

Bradley Cooper (47) is hardly recognizable in the first photos from the “Maestro” set. Filming for the Netflix movie started this month. This time Cooper is not only the main actor, but also the director. The photos, published on Twitter, show the 47-year-old as the composer Leonard Bernstein (1918-1990). He is joined by Carey Mulligan (37) as Bernstein’s wife, Felicia Montealegre (1922-1978).

A few months ago, Bradley Cooper spoke to Variety magazine about Maestro. “I’ve wanted to be a conductor since I was a kid,” said the actor.

Bradley Cooper took over directing from Steven Spielberg

Steven Spielberg (75) was originally supposed to direct Maestro. It was he who brought Cooper on board for the project. “I think he knew he wasn’t going to be making this movie anytime soon. He was kind enough to give it to me. And that’s what I’ve been working on for the last four and a half years,” Cooper explained.

However, “Maestro” isn’t Cooper’s first time directing. In 2018 he had a sensational success with his directorial debut “A Star Is Born”. The film, starring Lady Gaga (36), was nominated for eight Oscars and won in the category “Best Song” (“Shallow”).
