A woman has fallen from a cruise ship into the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of Mallorca. The sea rescue service was called to the “Azamara Quest” at around 2 a.m. on Sunday night, reports the British “Sun”. The ship had left the port of Barcelona a few hours earlier. The search has since been abandoned.

Fell from cruise ship “Azamara Quest”.

Two Spanish Coast Guard helicopters and a ship helped locate the missing person. It is said to be a middle-aged woman, her nationality is not yet known. “At two in the morning, the cruise ship ‘Azamara Quest’ informed our headquarters in Palma about a person who fell into the water 120 kilometers from Mallorca,” a spokesman for the Spanish coast guard told the newspaper.

As the sea rescue service told the “Mallorcazeitung” on request, an emergency signal would continue to warn ships in the area, but the search itself had been stopped. “Despite a constant day and night search involving the cruise ship’s lifeboats, four helicopters and a rescue ship from Salvamento Maritimo of Palma de Mallorca, the guest could not be located and the MRCC of Palma de Mallorca called off the search on May 5 June at 5:20 p.m.,” said the cruise company when asked by RTL.

The Azamara Quest continued its scheduled voyage and docked in Malaga on June 6th. “Azamara has notified all relevant authorities of this tragic incident and a full investigation into the incident is ongoing.” Nothing is known about the identity of the woman and the exact circumstances.
