Not everyone deserves a second chance. The experienced investigator Wallat (Peter Kurth) is sure of that – certainly not the child murderer Hagenow (Tobias Moretti), who is released after 15 years in prison. Wallat takes over the management of an LKA team that monitors the potential repeat offender. Wallat is to catch Hagenow in the act in order to put him behind bars forever. The LKA team is observing him around the clock. When Wallat loses sight of him on a nightly walk, a nightmare begins the next morning: a boy has disappeared without a trace.

FBI agents Joe Merriweather (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and Katherine Cowles (Abbie Cornish) are puzzled by a series of insidious murders. Contrary to Cowles’ agreement and doubts, Merriweather finally asks the psychoanalyst and psychic John Clancy (Anthony Hopkins) for support. With the help of his visions, the team gradually track down the perpetrator. But it soon becomes clear that Clancy is always one step ahead of the two investigators with his own supernatural abilities.

Her father Felix Kepler (Michael Wittenborn) suspects a kidnapping or a violent crime. He cannot explain otherwise why daughter Evelyn (Caroline Hellwig) has not contacted him and his wife (Michaela Caspar) for two weeks and is also missing at work.
