The Earthshot Prize is considered one of Prince William’s favorite projects. The team behind it now works as an independent organization.
With the help of the Earthshot Prize, which Prince William (40) launched in 2020, solutions to problems in the field of environmental protection are to be found. After the team behind it worked for the past two years as part of William and his wife, Duchess Kate, 40’s The Royal Foundation, the Earthshot Prize is now an independent charity, according to the official website.
The Earthshot Prize is considered one of Williams’ favorite environmental protection projects, who will therefore take on the role of President. However, they still want to work closely with the Foundation. Christiana Figueres, chair of the Earthshot Prize, said in a statement that it was an “extremely exciting step”.
Solutions to “fix” the planet
The Earthshot Prize was first awarded in London in October 2021. The prize is intended to support projects “to find the solutions […] that will repair our planet in this decade,” says the website. They believe “in the power of human ingenuity to prove to us all that the seemingly impossible is possible.”
This year’s winners will be announced in the fall. A corresponding ceremony is also scheduled to take place in the USA in 2022. At the events, five prize winners will be honored each year until 2030. The winners will each receive a prize money of one million pounds, the equivalent of around 1.2 million euros, to push their ideas forward.
