Princess Diana would have celebrated her 61st birthday on July 1st. Her sons remembered her deceased mother in emotional words.

Prince William (40) and Prince Harry (37) remembered their late mother, Princess Diana (1961-1997), in loving words on Friday. Lady Di would have celebrated her 61st birthday on July 1st. On the same day, the 2022 Diana Awards ceremony was held by the charity of the same name. Children and young adults between the ages of nine and 25 were honored for their social commitment or humanitarian work.

William congratulated the award winners in a letter published by the charity The Diana Award on its website. “Thank you for your compassion, courage and absolute determination. You are truly the embodiment of my mother’s legacy and I know she would be so proud of you all.” There is “no better way to celebrate their lives and work than by honoring the incredible people who put so much time and effort into helping those around them.”

Prince Harry: “My mother’s voice in my life is even stronger”

His brother Harry addressed the winners of the Diana Awards in a video message shared on Instagram. In emotional words, he explained: “My mother gave me and all of us the impetus to speak out and fight for a better world. And now, as a husband and a parent, my mother’s voice is even stronger in my life.”

He continued: “You all kept her voice alive by showing the world that every little act counts, that kindness is still appreciated and that our world can be better if we choose to make it that way .”

Diana’s death marks the 25th anniversary

Established in 1999, The Diana Award charity carries on Princess Diana’s belief that young people have the power to change their world. In addition to recognizing the inspiring work of young people, anti-bullying and mentoring programs are also run.

2022 marks the 25th anniversary of Princess Diana’s death. She and her then-boyfriend, Dodi Al-Fayed (1955-1997), died in a car accident in Paris on August 31, 1997. Lady Di was 36 years old. For her 60th birthday last year, her sons William and Harry unveiled a statue honoring Diana in London.
