Dries Mertens has played for Napoli in Serie A since 2013. Will he move to Rome towards the end of his league career?

Conference League winners AS Roma are apparently interested in attacker Dries Mertens, whose contract with SSC Napoli expires at the end of the month. This is reported by the Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Belgian had basically planned to end his career at Napoli, but so far the ideas of the two parties about extending the 35-year-old’s contract are too far apart.

Mertens is Napoli’s record goalscorer

Merten’s consultants are therefore already looking around for potential buyers and have struck gold with Roma. In the room is therefore a one-year contract with an option for another season.

Concrete negotiations are expected to begin as early as next week. Mertens joined Napoli from PSV Einhoven in 2013 and is now the club’s all-time record goalscorer with 148 goals.
