After the first high temperatures this year brought some summer feeling, some violent storms are brewing. The map shows where thunderstorms are currently raging over Germany.

Summer has just been a guest in Germany for a first flying visit with high temperatures, so in many places – at least temporarily – a storm front is driving it away again. The German weather service announces strong thunderstorms with hail and heavy rain for Thursday. Hurricane gusts are also to be expected regionally, the risk of tornadoes is increased.

On Friday it will continue accordingly. A second storm front brings more storms. “Even the particularly dangerous supercells are possible,” meteorologist Paul Heger is quoted as saying by the “Wetter.de” portal. A supercell is a giant storm cloud that consists of several thunderstorms and in the center of which is a rotating vortex that can grow into a tornado. In extreme cases, very heavy rainfall can be expected locally. However, as meteorologist Heger qualifies, this can hardly be assessed with a complex system like the one expected on Friday.

The interactive map below shows where it is currently lightning, thundering and raining. In addition, you can use the timeline at the bottom of the graphic to call up the forecast for a later point in time. At the top right, the displayed level can also be switched to rain or snow, for example.
