The ex-government of Japan, Shinzo Abe, is in mortal danger after an assassination attempt. He was hit by gunfire and collapsed

Assassination attempt on former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe (67). As reported by Japanese media, the 67-year-old was shot at during an election campaign event in the imperial city of Nara.

At least two shots were fired at him on the street during a speech by Abe. The perpetrator attacked him from behind and also hit him. According to television reports, the politician collapsed immediately, bled profusely, but was initially still conscious. A little later he suffered a cardiopulmonary arrest.

Shinzo Abe is in the hospital

He is now in critical condition in a hospital. The perpetrator was meanwhile overpowered by the security forces and arrested.

Abe was Prime Minister of Japan from December 2012 to September 2020. No head of government has held power in Japan for so long. The politician stands for a conservative course of his party LPD and is still politically active. Elections to the upper house will take place in the Asian country on Sunday.
