As a goalkeeper, Nadine Angerer became world and European champion with the German women’s soccer team, and ended her career in 2015. How is the former world-class goalkeeper doing today? Interview: Tobias Ott

Today you are the goalkeeping coach for the Portland Thorns. Do you still use the gloves from your last game as a goalkeeper? The gloves and jersey are in storage at my parents’ house, all my souvenirs are in my head. The career as a player is in the past, now I focus on my work as a coach.

You kept a clean sheet at the 2007 World Cup, saving a penalty from Brazil’s Marta in the final. Was the goalkeeper afraid of the penalty? In my opinion, the statement is wrong: you can only win in goal. I never felt the fear, I was more interested in holding the ball.
