June is the month of the Pride parades: around 200,000 people take part in the “Vienna Pride” in Vienna.

After the pandemic break, a rainbow parade started again for the first time on Saturday in Vienna.

Colorfully dressed participants set out from Rathausplatz with floats, instruments and music to demonstrate for the rights of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and intersex people. The organizers of “Vienna Pride” expected more than 200,000 people.

A final rally with a video message from Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen was planned for 6:00 p.m. Many politicians welcomed the parade. They recalled that many of those affected continue to experience violence and discrimination. That has to stop.

The organizers also wanted to send a signal against the Russian war against Ukraine. «Pride against hate – make love, not war!» was the motto – «Pride against hate – make love, not war».
