SSC Napoli has apparently found its replacement for Lorenzo Insigne. The transfer of Gerard Deulofeu is imminent.

Italian top club SSC Napoli have apparently found a replacement for captain Lorenzo Insigne. As the portal Calciomercatoweb reports, Napoli has agreed on a multi-year contract with the Spaniard Gerard Deulofeu. The 28-year-old should earn two million euros net on Vesuvius, plus performance-related bonus payments.

However, Napoli have yet to reach an agreement with Deulofeu’s current club Udinese Calcio. According to the report, Udine rejected an initial offer of €13m and now an improved offer of €15m-16m is under discussion. Deulofeu has had a strong season, scoring 13 goals and providing five assists in 35 competitive games.

Deulofeu: Often passed around, happy in Italy

The offensive player comes from the youth of FC Barcelona, but never made the final breakthrough with the Catalans. After several loan deals, he firmly left Barca for Everton in 2015 but returned two years later. But he wasn’t happy at the second attempt in Barcelona either and was loaned out again instead. Deulofeu finally came to Udine via FC Watford – initially also on loan, in January 2021 he finally moved to Italy.

In Naples, the four-time Spain international would follow in the footsteps of club legend Insigne. The longtime captain is leaving the club he loves after 16 years and moving to Toronto FC in the MLS.
