The controversial series “Squid Game” is the biggest hit for Netflix so far. It’s now official that there is a second season.

Sequel to “Squid Game”: With a short clip, Netflix has really fueled the anticipation of the second season of the South Korean series hit.

The just 10-second video on Twitter shows the eye of an animated doll – presumably the “Young-hee” doll from the first season. The announcement read: “Squid Game is officially coming back for Season 2!”. Exactly when it will continue was initially unclear.

There had already been reports of a sequel in January. According to this, Ted Sarandos, Co-CEO of Netflix, confirmed this during a telephone conference. “Squid Game” is the biggest hit for the streaming provider Netflix. The thriller series was viewed by 142 million households in the first four weeks of its launch last fall.

A statement by director and creator Hwang Dong-hyuk was posted under the short video, in which he revealed the first details of the second season: «Gi-hun returns. The frontman returns, “it said. The man in the suit could also be there again. Gi-hun and the frontman were played by actors Lee Jung-jae and Lee Byung-hun in the first season.

“Squid Game” is a mixture of thriller and social criticism: In a game show, hundreds of highly indebted people from completely different social backgrounds compete against each other in children’s games to win prize money in the millions. Losers are killed instantly in the macabre competition. The series also led to criticism in this country: for example, children played the series in a daycare and after-school care center.
