Listening to music while cycling has long since become part of everyday life for many people. However, it is often claimed that it is not allowed at all. We’ll enlighten you.

There is no legal regulation for listening to music while cycling. The so-called “Walkman ruling” from 1987 is still used today. In this trial, a decision was made in favor of the defendant, who had listened to music on the Walkman while riding his bike.

Listening to music on the bike is therefore absolutely permitted. However, you should only listen to your own ears at a volume that does not completely distract you from the traffic.

If you listen to music too loudly while cycling, this is a misdemeanor. This will result in a fine of 10 euros. If you endanger other road users, the fine increases to 15 euros.
