Monochrome accompanies us into summer. We love the all-over look – it exudes elegance in a casual way.

A trend that has picked up speed in recent years: monochrome styling. Also this year this look accompanies us through the spring into the summer. We can stroll through the city again, sit in cafés and enjoy carefree days. And wear one color from head to toe. But that doesn’t mean that the all-over look is boring. Instead, monochrome outfits radiate casual elegance.

How does the monochrome look work?

The most important rule is: All items of clothing in the outfit come from the same color family. When you start designing the look, you choose a color that wants to determine the look. You can use trend colors as a guide, but you can also opt for classic tones such as camel, cream or grey. Model Gigi Hadid (27) presents an ensemble of beige overalls, waist belts in cognac and also beige high heels on Instagram.

The next thing to think about is the occasion for which you want to wear the outfit. For a stroll through town with a visit to a café, for example, you can choose trousers, comfortable shoes and a T-shirt or top with a matching jacket. While choosing a skirt to pair with a dressier top and cardigan for a friends cocktail party.

This is how the monochrome look is fun

Putting together the look should definitely be fun: rummaging through your own closet for items of clothing in the same color family and experimenting with the different combinations. You should always stay close to the selected base tone and not deviate too much from it.

The look becomes more exciting and varied when you combine different materials and cuts. (Almost) everything is allowed: denim, linen, silk, wool, cotton. When choosing accessories, the rule that everything must stay close to the chosen base tone is less strict. A handbag, earrings, jewelery and shoes can create interesting contrasts that give the outfit an individual touch.
