Prominent visitor to Sylt: Federal Minister of Finance Christian Lindner is on the North Sea island these days. Not for professional reasons, but to marry the journalist Franca Lehfeldt there.

Federal Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP) and his partner Franca Lehfeldt want to get married today in a civil ceremony on Sylt. The mayor of the municipality of Sylt, Nikolas Häckel (independent), will marry the couple, as he told the dpa.

Celebrations will continue on Sylt in the coming days: As the dpa learned from FDP circles, there will be a bachelorette party on Friday and on Saturday Lindner and Lehfeldt want to say yes in a church. According to media reports, numerous celebrities are on the guest list – including Chancellor Olaf Scholz. The couple themselves have not given any information about the upcoming wedding.

Second marriage for Lindner

Lehfeldt works as a political reporter for the Welt news channel, which belongs to the Axel Springer media group. It was announced last October that she and Lindner got engaged. “We are overjoyed,” said Lehfeldt the broadcaster RTL, for which she was still working. It will be the second marriage for the 43-year-old Lindner, he was already married to the journalist Dagmar Rosenfeld. Today’s editor-in-chief of the daily newspaper “Die Welt” and Lindner have been married since 2011. Their separation became known in April 2018.

family plans

Last year, Lindner also divulged private information in an interview with the magazine “Bunte”. Starting a family with his partner Lehfeldt is very important to him. “Yes, Franca and I have that wish,” he replied when asked how the topic of having our own family looked. His greatest wish in life is “soon to have two, three or four girls or boys.”

Sylt is very popular as a wedding location – not only with the islanders themselves, but also with many guests. “Before Corona, we had about 800 weddings a year with different numbers of guests,” said Häckel. There are four permanent registrars on the island and three “temporaries”. The latter are registrars, but they work permanently in another department.
