When Angela Merkel’s end as Chancellor approached in September 2021, the “Spiegel” author Alexander Osang summarized his reporter relationship with her in an essay that mainly deals with the impossibility of getting close to the woman who was 16 years old long ruled this country. So many questions, so few answers. At least not a satisfactory one. Osang concluded his text with the following sentence, among other things: “If I had a single question for the Chancellor, I would ask her: ‘How are you?'”
