The fourth season of “Stranger Things” is currently the series event on Netflix. An old song from the 80s even stormed the American iTunes charts. In Germany, too, he is among the leaders.
The Netflix series “Stranger Things” also feels like a journey through time in the iTunes charts: In the USA, the single “Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)” by Kate Bush from 1985 is currently number 1 the iTunes charts. In doing so, she supplanted artists like Lady Gaga and Harry Styles. In Germany, the song is at number 13.
The song first appears in the first episode and plays an important role in Max’s (Sadie Sink) story.
“Running Up That Hill” is the lead single from Bush’s Hounds of Love album, which would go on to become her biggest hit. The title was originally “A Deal With God” but was changed by her label due to concerns the track might be blacklisted in religious countries such as Italy, France and Australia. The Season 4 soundtrack also includes the Beach Boys’ “California Dreamin'”, the Talking Heads’ “Psycho Killer” and Dead or Alive’s “You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)”.
It’s not the first time that “Stranger Things” has revived an old classic: in the last season, for example, the song “The Never Ending Story” was by Limahl, as the US magazine “Deadline” reports. At the time, YouTube showed that searches for the music video increased by 800 percent shortly after the release of the new episodes.
In February, Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer announced that Season 4 would be released in two parts. The final episodes will be available to stream on July 1st. Since its premiere on Netflix in 2016, “Stranger Things” thrives on visual and audio ’80s nostalgia as the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana sees a constant flow of supernatural events involving a group of teenagers.
