The defamation process was originally supposed to last six weeks. But because of the extensive evidence, it was extended by a week. After a long weekend and almost two and a half days of negotiations, the seven-member jury came to a conclusion.

Johnny Depp originally sued Amber Heard. He accused her of dragging his name through the mud with an opinion piece in the Washington Post and having harmed him professionally. Depp wanted $50 million from Heard. She then filed a counterclaim. She also accused him of defamation and wanted $100 million from him. She referred to public statements by Depp’s former attorney, Adam Waldman, in which Waldman described her allegations of violence against Depp as fake and assault.
The process was filmed by cameras and broadcast live every weekday. On television and on YouTube, fans could follow how the two film stars made bad accusations. Amber Heard spoke of being beaten by her ex-husband for years. She also reported on his drug excesses and his jealousy.

Depp’s lawyers painted a different picture. Heard is said to have been the attacker, while Johnny Depp is said to have withdrawn in the dispute. The actor’s reps allege that Heard was only out for money and sold pictures of her bruises.
Both Depp and Heard argued that the other had done immense damage to their own careers. Friends of Amber Heard and her sister and former make-up artist testified in court. Former and current employees and ex-girlfriend Kate Moss took the stand for Depp.
