Top transfer Mario Götze drew attention to himself at the start of training for Europa League winner Eintracht Frankfurt. The 30-year-old ex-national player was cheered by around 1,000 fans and onlookers after he was the first to enter the pitch.

Götze is preparing for his return to the Bundesliga after two years with the Dutch top club PSV Eindhoven. The Frankfurters also want to play a good role in the club’s first participation in the Champions League with the 2014 World Cup winning goal scorer. In addition to Götze, striker Lucas Alario, who moved to Main from Bayer Leverkusen, is the second prominent addition.

22 players at the start

Overall, head coach Oliver Glasner welcomed 22 players in bright sunshine. Among them were the newcomers Randal Kolo Muani and Jérôme Onguéné. On the other hand, Aurelio Buta could not be there. After knee surgery, he is not expected before September. A few Eintracht national players still have special leave until next week. National goalkeeper Kevin Trapp was even granted a break until July 7th.

It is unclear whether and for how long winger Filip Kostic, who Juventus Turin is said to be interested in, or left-back Evan Ndicka will return to the squad. There is also a question mark behind Daichi Kamada, who is also said to be willing to leave. There will be no reunion with Martin Hinteregger. The defense chief from Austria surprisingly ended his career at the age of 29.

The start of the compulsory game for Eintracht is the cup match on August 1st at second division promoted 1. FC Magdeburg. Four days later, the SGE contests the league opening game against FC Bayern Munich. On August 10th, the Supercup in Helsinki will take on Champions League winners Real Madrid.
