At the big party in downtown Frankfurt, the SGE players also ignited pyro on the town hall balcony. That is why it is now being investigated.

The Frankfurt police have stated in a press release that Eintracht Frankfurt players are being investigated for burning pyrotechnics. At the celebrations of the Europa League triumph on Frankfurt’s Römerberg on Thursday, several Eintracht players lit flares on the balcony of the town hall.

In the course of the celebrations on the Römerberg in Frankfurt and in other public places in the city, Bengalos and censers were lit several times. Firework rockets also flew, some directly into the crowd.

Police documented the process

On the balcony of the building where the trophy was presented to the supporters, some players of the Frankfurt flares, which were also clearly visible during the TV broadcast, ignited. This happened at the same time that the police asked those present via an announcement to refrain from firing pyrotechnics.

“Some Eintracht players also lit flares on the balcony. The police documented this for subsequent, secure prosecution,” the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung quoted a spokesman for the Frankfurt police as saying.

With the exception of a few other minor incidents, the majority of the 100,000 fans estimated by the police behaved peacefully.
