The eighth season of the dating show “Love Island” will not be broadcast later this year as planned. There will be new episodes in 2023.

Bad news for all “Love Island” fans: This year there will be no more seasons of the dating show. In April, an RTLzwei spokesman told the media service “DWDL” that the eighth season had already been ordered and should be broadcast in late summer. After the seventh season in March, there would have been one season each in spring and late summer, just like last year.

This is now apparently over: Thomas Fischer, head of entertainment at RTLzwei, said at the request of “DWDL” that the broadcaster had decided to “fix the broadcasting frequency once a year”.

New season with Sylvie Meis only in 2023

The reason? “Love Island” should “continue to be perceived by viewers as a highlight of the year in the market,” Fischer is quoted as saying. RTLzwei will “creatively develop the format with full force”. A new season of “Love Island” with presenter Sylvie Meis (44) will not be available until 2023.
