Model Kate Moss is expected to take the witness stand in court in Virginia on Wednesday. She is to testify for Johnny Depp – and could become one of his main advocates.

It is probably the testimony that is most eagerly awaited: supermodel Kate Moss will give her perspective and take a stand in court in Fairfax, Virginia. The only reason Moss could even be subpoenaed by Johnny Depp’s team was because of Amber Heard’s own testimony.

Kate Moss: Why she is so important to Johnny Depp

Heard recalled an incident from 2015. Depp had an argument with Heard’s sister Whitney, the actress said. She didn’t hesitate to intervene. “Whitney had his back to the stairs and Johnny hit her,” she testified. “I’m not hesitating, I’m not waiting — I immediately think of Kate Moss and the stairs in my head. And I punched him,” she recalled, echoing a rumor that Depp pushed Moss down a hotel staircase in the ’90s. With Amber Heard bringing up Kate Moss’s name, Depp’s team was able to call the model as a rebuttal witness.

The British woman could become the most important witness. If Depp’s ex-partners Vanessa Paradis and Winona Ryder had already testified for him in the London trial, Moss was not questioned at the time. But what she says could carry weight. Especially for Depp’s image in public.

Because in the end, the ongoing libel trial isn’t just about the jury’s decision. But also about what the fans think about Depp and Heard. Both want to repair their tarnished reputations, but especially Johnny Depp. The core of his lawsuit is that he accuses Amber Heard of having harmed him professionally with her article in the “Washington Post”. The 50 million he demands from her in damages are probably irrelevant to Depp. He has enough money. But what he needs are more roles and an image that allows film studios to hire him. And that’s exactly where a superstar like Kate Moss comes in.

Image court

Since the trial will be broadcast live, the whole world would see her defending her ex-boyfriend. As she may emphasize that he took good care of her. She could echo what she told Vanity Fair magazine ten years ago: “There’s no one who’s ever really cared about me. Johnny did for a while. I believed what he said. When I like asking, ‘What should I do?’ he would tell me. And I missed that when I left. I really lost the feeling that I could trust anyone.”

And so Kate Moss becomes the most important witness in two respects: On the one hand, she could factually refute Amber Heard’s testimony, on the other hand, she could draw a picture of Johnny Depp in front of the public that does not correspond to that of the “woman-beater”.
