The water came with such force that it swept away or destroyed everything. When it gave way, it buried the usual life of the von Kügelgen family under stinking mud. Her house in the Eifel was badly damaged and had to be renovated from the ground up. The catastrophe in the Eifel was nine months ago, but the family is still feeling the effects of the physical and mental stress. “We worked until we dropped to regain some of our everyday life,” says Peggy von Kügelgen, mother of an eight-year-old and a twenty-year-old son.
