For a long time they were considered a dream couple. But lately there have been reports of the critical state of the marriage between Mats and Cathy Hummels. Now there seems to be a new development.
They were a couple for more than 14 years, seven of which were married. But now the love between Mats Hummels and his wife Cathy seems to have come to an end. As RTL learned from Cathy Hummels’ close environment, the divorce has already been filed. The “Bild” newspaper had previously reported on it. The couple has been separated for a year.
No comment from Mats and Cathy Hummels
Neither Cathy nor BVB star Mats Hummels have officially commented on the divorce. But the influencer published a cryptic post on Instagram, which many interpreted as a comment on her marriage: “When a door closes, a new one opens,” says a post on Tuesday. “I don’t like changes that much. But accepting them helps you, even if it hurts. I accept it and, as always, I’m as positive as possible. For Ludwig. For me. For our lives. Let’s go. Just where to go ?”
According to RTL, Cathy Hummels is said to have tried to fight for the marriage until the end. In the past she has repeatedly posted photos showing her with husband Mats. Even when reports of a love affair had long been circulating, the woman from Munich continued to maintain the impression of an intact marriage.
The two met in Munich in 2007, Cathy Fischer was still a student at the time, and Mats Hummels was under contract with Bayern Munich. When the defender switched to Borussia Dortmund in 2008, his girlfriend Cathy moved to the Ruhr area with him – and soon made headlines as a woman at his side. She stood in front of the camera for several television stations, when Mats Humels became world champion with the German national soccer team in Brazil in 2014, she was there.
A year later, the couple married, and their son Ludwig was born in 2018. At that point, Mats Hummels was back playing in Munich, where the couple now lived. But when the professional moved to Dortmund again in 2019, his wife Cathy stayed in her home country.
As it now looks, the separate apartments could become a permanent condition.
