You can’t discover your passion much sooner. Christina and Elena Wassen started diving at the age of four.

So “before we could really think,” as Christina Wassen says with a smile after finishing fifth together in synchronized diving from the tower at the World Championships in Budapest. “We don’t know any different. That’s why it’s our life and our routine.”

The parents used to go to the swimming pool every Sunday at a very young age with Christina, who is now 23 years old, and Elena, who is now 21 years old. “Our older brothers then jumped from the three-meter tower. And Christina, as a younger sister, wanted to do it too, if the brothers were allowed to do it,” explains Elena Wassen. The talent was quickly noticed: “Then our father dropped her and she didn’t splash in like all the other children, but straighter. Then our mother searched the internet for opportunities to jump in the water.»

In Aachen they learned the basics and got better and better. When the Springer base was to be closed, the sisters moved to Berlin to pursue their passion. Elena was just twelve then. “It was worth it,” says Christina Wassen. The two have long established themselves in the German national team.
