If Frenkie de Jong has his way, he will wear the FC Barcelona shirt again next season.

Frenkie de Jong wants to stay at FC Barcelona. This was explained by the Dutch international, about whom rumors of a change have been circulating for weeks. Among other things, the English record champions Manchester United are said to be interested in a transfer this summer. When asked about this, de Jong told ESPN: “I’d rather stay in Barcelona.”

Barca is his “dream club,” the 24-year-old continued: “It was like that when I was a kid and it hasn’t changed. I’ve never regretted my move here, even though I hoped we’d do more during that time win the title.”

FC Barcelona: Talking to Frenkie de Jong at United, City and Juventus

De Jong joined Barcelona from Ajax in 2019 for €86m. He had a mixed first season at the Blaugrana and often played in an unfamiliar position. He then showed decent performances, but without shining as before in Amsterdam. He made 139 appearances for Barca and won the Copa del Rey with the club.

With the Catalans in dire need of cash, De Jong is one of a string of big-name players allowed to leave the club. In addition to United, where his former promoter Erik ten Hag is hired as team manager, he is also under discussion as a new signing at ManCity and Juventus.

De Jong was also traded at FC Bayern. FCB coach Julian Nagelsmann raved on Amazon Prime in April when he was asked about his dream player: “Mbappe is certainly not wrong for any team. I also think that Frenkie de Jong is a very good player. Nagelsmann also restricted: “Both would rather go beyond the scope of our financial possibilities.”

De Jong stressed: “I can only say that there is absolutely no agreement or anything official. At the moment this question does not arise. At least not that I know of. Or something was hidden from me, but I don’t think so.”

His contract in Barcelona runs until 2026.
