When the days get longer and the temperatures rise, we herald the summer vacation season! This is where we are drawn to in 2022.

The Pentecost holidays are almost over, now the summer vacation wants to be planned. But where should it go? Travelers from Germany have a very clear favorite, which is in the Mediterranean Sea. In addition to sunny destinations in the south, there are also European metropolises in the north.

According to the travel portal Opodo, summertime is all about beaches and palm trees. Accordingly, in 2022 Palma is the undisputed number one destination for holidaymakers from Germany. Who cares? After all, Mallorca has always been a place of longing for sun-seekers.

Away from the nightlife with parties, sangria and pop music, the Balearic island has great spots to offer: Lovers of the sea should head to the northern tip of the island. The former watchtower Talaia d’Albercutx stands at Cap Formentor. From the 380 meter high structure you have a spectacular view over the rushing waves. Palma itself enchants with the Gothic La Seu Cathedral in the south of the old town not far from the coast. The Arabic influence, which mixes with Spanish-Catalan elements in the old town, is also unmistakable. A walk through the largely car-free core is definitely worthwhile.

Off to the south? Or not?

If travelers from Hesse have their way, Istanbul is the place to be in 2022. For holidaymakers from North Rhine-Westphalia, Lower Saxony and Baden-Württemberg, the vibrant metropolis on the Bosporus with its numerous bazaars comes second. The Saarlanders handle it completely differently. They stay true to their homeland and prefer to immerse themselves in the varied summer program in Berlin.

Brexit and quarrels about British Prime Minister Boris Johnson (57) do not curb the desire to travel to London, as the study shows. After the celebrations for Queen Elizabeth II’s 70th jubilee, life in the bustling metropolis will definitely be more relaxed again. In six federal states (Bavaria, Bremen, Hamburg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Schleswig-Holstein and Saxony), the capital of the United Kingdom secured silver as the second favorite destination for the summer months. In northern Germany and Saxony, people prefer a trip to the city of love – Bienvenue à Paris!
