The IG Bauen-Agrar-Umwelt did not allow itself to be “lured out from behind the oven” with the first offer from the employer side of 12.50 euros and is demanding more distance from the minimum wage.

In the minimum wage negotiations for the building cleaning trade, the employers submitted an initial offer.

According to the Bauen-Agrar-Umwelt industrial union, employees would receive an hourly wage of 12.50 euros from October 1st, i.e. 50 cents more than the statutory minimum wage then planned. From 2024 there should be a further increase of 25 cents.

More than two-thirds receive minimum wage

The union rejected the proposal as “much too low” given the sharp rise in the cost of living. “These increases don’t lure anyone out from behind the stove, the gap to the statutory minimum wage must be significantly higher,” says board member Ulrike Laux. IG BAU wants to maintain the previous distance. This results in a wage claim of around 19 percent to 13.73 euros per hour. The collectively agreed minimum wage is very important in the industry because around 500,000 of the 700,000 employees receive it.

The Federal Guild Association of Building Cleaners had pointed out the numerous burdens to which the companies and their clients were exposed. “Part of a collective bargaining compromise is to also deal with the difficult economic and business environment for our companies,” explains negotiator Christian Kloevekorn after the first round. A second hearing is scheduled for June 2 again in Frankfurt.
